We didn't fall in love quickly.
And honestly, we are glad we didn't.
When we connected on the matrimonial platform, both of us were very clear that we didn't want to rush into marriage just because our families were looking.
Our first few conversations were very normal.
We spoke about work, family, friends and everyday life.
After some time, we started talking about things that were a little more personal.
What kind of life did we want?
How did we see our careers after marriage?
How important were our families to us?
What did we expect from each other?
Those conversations helped us understand that we were actually quite compatible.
There were also things where we were completely different.
Nidhi is much more organised than me. She plans everything in advance. I am the person who decides what to do after reaching the destination.
She likes making lists.
I lose lists.
Somehow, we still managed.
Our families met after we had already spent enough time getting to know each other. That made the whole process much easier because by then we had already made our decision.
The wedding day was beautiful, but for us the more memorable part was actually the months after it.
We were learning how to live together.
We discovered each other's habits.
Some were cute.
Some were irritating.
Some were both.
We learned how to manage money, family commitments, holidays, work and all the small responsibilities that nobody really talks about before marriage.
We have now been married for a little over two years.
If someone asks us what made our relationship work, we don't have one big answer.
We think it was simply the time we gave each other before making the decision.
We didn't try to impress each other.
We tried to understand each other.
That made all the difference.
